The Rising Cost of Coffee: What’s Happening and How It Affects Your Daily Brew

Coffee Prices Are Rising—Here’s What’s Driving It and How Freedom Forged Coffee Is Responding

If you've been paying attention, you may have noticed your daily cup of coffee costing more lately. Whether it’s at your local café, the grocery store, or even online, the price of coffee is climbing. Zack and I have been watching this closely, and I’ve had some long talks with Justin, our roaster, about what’s happening in the coffee market.

So, what’s behind these rising prices? More importantly, what does it mean for you—and for us at Freedom Forged Coffee?

What’s Causing Coffee Prices to Rise?

There’s no single reason why coffee prices are spiking; it’s a perfect storm of challenges.

For starters, Brazil—the world’s largest coffee producer—is facing one of its worst droughts in years. Less rain means lower crop yields, which means fewer beans to go around. That’s already putting strain on supply, and according to Barchart, Arabica coffee prices are reaching record highs because of it.

But that’s just one piece of the puzzle. Global supply chain issues and shipping delays are still causing problems, making it more expensive to transport coffee from farms to roasters. And if that wasn’t enough, new tariffs and trade policies could make imported beans even pricier. The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette recently reported on potential trade barriers that may hit coffee imports hard.

At the same time, demand for specialty coffee is at an all-time high, and major chains like Starbucks and Dunkin’ are already passing their costs onto customers, as noted by Globely News.

All of this boils down to one thing: coffee prices are rising across the board—and fast.

What This Means for Coffee Drinkers

For the average coffee lover, this means prices will likely continue increasing, whether you brew at home or grab your daily cup from a shop. Some brands may even start cutting corners—opting for lower-quality beans or tweaking roast profiles to save costs.

But here’s where Freedom Forged Coffee stands:

  • We refuse to cut corners. No matter what’s happening in the market, we’re committed to quality. We’d rather take a hit than compromise on the coffee we serve.
  • We’re holding prices (for now). Justin has already told me that his average customer is seeing an 80-cent increase per pound. That’s steep. Thanks to our current inventory, we’re keeping our prices steady for now—but we’ll be watching this closely.
  • We’re working toward direct sourcing. Our long-term vision has always been to grow and roast our own coffee in Puerto Rico—cutting out middlemen, ensuring quality, and keeping costs more predictable. If Zack and I can get our green coffee beans ready on the island, Justin has even offered to captain the boat himself to transport them back from Puerto Rico! Now that’s dedication—and we love it!

How You Can Prepare

If you want to keep enjoying high-quality coffee without breaking the bank, here are a few things to consider:

  • Buy Whole Bean: Whole beans stay fresh longer, meaning you can buy in bulk and store them properly.
  • Support Small Roasters: Big coffee brands will always pass their costs onto customers. Small-batch roasters (like us!) are working hard to keep pricing fair while maintaining quality.
  • Consider a Subscription: While we don’t have a dedicated subscription page, you can select a subscription option at checkout for bi-weekly or monthly deliveries. Need a different delivery schedule? Just Contact Us—we’ll make it happen.

Final Thoughts

Coffee is more than just a drink—it’s a daily ritual, a craft, and for many of us, a necessity. While the market is shifting, our mission remains the same: to deliver high-quality coffee, support our community, and move toward an independent, sustainable future.

We’ll continue watching these trends and keeping you updated along the way. In the meantime, keep brewing, keep sipping, and know that every cup of Freedom Forged Coffee is backed by integrity and purpose.
